Angoulême 2009 プロモーションとフランスの朝食 4

アングレーム国際漫画祭では、多くの展覧会が開かれ、アーティストやスタジオのオリジナル原画が展示されていました。
（オリジナル原画を見るのって、すっごく感動しますよね。）
また、ベストアーティスト、ベスト海外コミックといった賞の授賞式なども行われていました。
でも、賞にはそれほど興味なかったので、あまり見なかったのですが。
その代わり、自分の作品を持ち歩きプロモーション活動。
世界的な経済不況ゆえ、契約を結ぶのは至難の業。
それでも出版社の人たちは新しい才能やアイデアの発掘に余念なく、興味を持ってくれました。
私自身、フランス語を話せず個人的なコネもありませんでしたが、最初にしては上手くいったと思います。
アングレームのことばかりで、フランスやフランス料理について何も語っていませんでしたが・・・
食に関しては、スウェーデンと比べ、かなり異なりますね。
朝食は、私にとって少な過ぎでした。
ジュースとコーヒーとクロワッサンだけだったんですから！
その他のメインコースに関しては、素晴らしかったです。
給仕の作法は申し分なく、どれも最高においしい。
しかし、ちょっとがっかりしてしまうのが、肉の焼き加減。
「ウェルダンで」と頼んでいるのに、いっつも血が滴るような赤い肉が出てくるのです。
ケーキやコーヒーについては何も言うことありません。
一言で言うとしたら「天国〜」
There were many exhibitions at the festival.
Almost all were the originals of different artists or studios.
(I think it's VERY inspiring to look at originals.)
There were also the yearly prizes, bets artist, best foreign album and so on.
But it doesn't interest me very much so I didn't follow it very close.
Instead I walked around and promoted my self and my projects.
Due to the bad economy it was very tuff to get anything signed.
But the publishers were very interested any how to be on the look out for new talents and ideas.
And for being my first time and not speaking French and don't have any own connections I think I did rather well.
All this talking about Angoulême and I've not said much about France and the food.
About the food, it was different from Swedish.
The breakfast was too small in my taste.
Just juice, coffee and a croissant!
Almost all the main courses were on the other hand marvelous.
Always well served and very, very tasty.
Just a slight disappointment was some of the meat.
Even if you asked to have it "well done" it was ALWAYS bloody and red.
On the cakes and coffee side I have nothing to say but: heavenly.

写真の本は、アングレームで出会った人たちから貰ったもの。
その上に置いてあるのは漫画祭のパスで、これを持っていれば全てのブース、展覧会、講演等に出入りできます。
出版社用や関係者用のブースに行けば、色々なアーチストや出版社の人たちとのコンタクトは、とても簡単でスムーズでした。
でも、一番楽しい出会いは、会場外での夜の時間。
全てのレストランやバーは、コミック関係の人たちでいっぱいなんです。
中には、フランス語を喋れない人たちの溜まり場なんていうバー（"The Black Cat"）もありました。
韓国からのアーティストのグループにも会いましたが、メインストリームではなく、オルタナティブ系のコミックを描いていて、とてもよい人たちでした。
あと、前回でもちょっと書きましたが、大阪総合デザイン専門学校の人たち。
また、とっても親切なフランス人イラストレーター Julie. M さんは、彼女の最新絵本をくださいました。 （絵本からのオリジナルを展示した展覧会を開いてたのです。）
労働の権利や、仕事におけるホモセクシャルへの差別に関するコミックを描いたアーティストも素敵な人でした。
初めて行ったにも関らず、アングレーム国際漫画祭では、本当にたくさんの素晴らしい人たちに会いましたよ。
このブログを見てなくても、皆にありがとうと言いたいです。

It was very easy to come in contact with the different artists and publishers, both through the different publisher tents and also there were special tents for branch people.
But the most fun way was to go out in the evening.
All the restaurants and bars were full of comic people.
There was even a special bar called "The Black Cat" where all the non French speaking people met.
I met a nice group of Korean artists who worked not with mainstream comics, but more alternative and artistic comics.
And as I mentioned before there were the Osaka Sogo College of Design.
I also met the very kind French illustrator Julie. M who gave me her latest children book. (She also had an exhibition with all her original inked pages from the book.)
There was also this nice man who had done a comic on the working rights and non discrimination of homosexuals in working life.
Even if it was my first time in Angoulême I got to meet so many nice and kind people there.
And even if they don't read this, I would like to thank them all.

久しぶりになってしまいましたが、アングレーム国際漫画祭の写真をアップしますので、街の様子がもっとよく感じられると思います。
1枚目の写真は、街の頂上部。
ここはメインストリートで、分かりやすい道です。
しかーし、ちょっと小さな横道にそれると、いとも簡単に迷子になってしまいます。
2枚目は、駅の近くで、左側の建物は「大阪総合デザイン専門学校 漫画学科」の展示会場。
（先生方はとても良い人たちでしたが、生徒達はずいぶん静かでした。 もっと生徒の方達とも色々話せたら楽しかったでしょうが、残念です。）
Now long at last I have managed to get some photos from the event in Angouleme, to give you a better feel of the town.
This one is from the "top part" of town.
This is the main walking street and it's easy to find your way along it.
But if you go out on the small side streets you lose your way of direction rather fast.
The next one is just down by the train station, and if you could look to the left you would see the building where the "Osaka Sogo College of Design Department of Manga" were.
(The teachers there were very nice, but the students rather quiet. Sad, it would have been more fun to talk more to them.)

しかーし、ちょっと小さな横道にそれると、いとも簡単に迷子になってしまいます。

ちょっと遅くなりましたが、フランスのアングレームで行われた国際漫画祭（１月２９日〜２月１日）に行ったときの旅行記です。
アングレームという街は、おもしろいのです。
真平な大地に、切り立った大きな丘が突然あり、その頂上に街があるのです。

この丘のふもとに泊まったのですが、毎朝、とっても急な坂を上がって街に行かなければならなかったんですよ。
国際漫画祭の会場は、旧市街でした。
１日目は、まだ人が少なかったので、あちこち散策し、いろいろ見て周るには良かったです。
世界的な不況の影はここにもあり、ほとんどの出版社は新しい契約には乗り気ではなく、新参者にとっては収穫もありませんでした。
それでも、フランスのコミック市場は、昨年に比べ１０％アップしたとか。
（２００８年度は、フランス国内で4,300冊ものコミックアルバムが新たに出版されたそう。）
それでも、マーケットは今年の売り上げは見込めないと思っているんですね。
どうやら、しばらく辛抱して様子を見るしかないようです。
A bit delayed, but here starts the report about my journey to the International Comic Festival in Angoulême in France (29 January – 1st February 2009).
The city of Angoulême is funny.
It's all flat around and then there is a great elevation and on top of that is the old town.
(See the picture.)
We lived just at the foot of the hill so every morning we had to walk up the VERY steep slope. The festival was held up in the old part of town.
The first day was the best to walk around and see as much as possible, as there wasn't so much people... yet.
The shadow of the negative world economy was present to as almost all publishers didn't sign any new people this year.
Even so last year the comic market in France went up 10%.
(I think the figure for 2008 was about 4,300 new albums in France.)
But even so the market didn't think it would be a good year this year.
I guess we all have to wait and see about that.

真平な大地に、切り立った大きな丘が突然あり、その頂上に街があるのです。

図書館での展覧会 The Exhibition at the Library

昨年の夏、私と友人が手がけているスウェーデンの作家 Fritiof Nilsson "Piraten" についての漫画制作に関する展覧会の様子をお伝えしましたが、覚えてますか？
今、その展示が、今度はマルメ市立図書館で行われています。
コミックコーナにて3週間（1月１２日から２月９日まで）。
出版社側のゴタガタや、私たちも他のことで手がいっぱいだったため、しばらくこのプロジェクトはストップしたままでしたが、また始動開始です。
また今月末、アングレーム国際漫画祭に参加するため、私たちはフランスに行く予定。
すっごく楽しみ！
戻ったら、この旅行について、何か良い話ができたらなと思います。
Do you remember the exhibition about the Swedish author Fritiof Nilsson "Piraten" that me and a friend did last summer?
Well, now it's being showed at the main library in Malmö city.
We have the space where in the comic section for 3 weeks (from 12th of Jan. till 9th of Feb.)!
The project has been on halt due to changes in the publicising company and that both me and me friend has had other things on our hands.
But now it seem like it's moving on again.
Also, in the end of this month the both of us are going to France, to Angouleme and the international comic festival there.
Very exciting!
I hope I have something good to tell about that journey when I'm back from it.
